Tragic Update on UPS Accident: Death Toll Rises to 13

The tally of fatalities due to the transport jet that ignited and crashed has climbed to 13, per official statements.

City Leader's Announcement

“On my way to the Union’s memorial service, I learned of a additional fatality that passed away as a result of the plane crash,” wrote the municipal leader in a public communication. “My thoughts are with the relatives, associates and co-workers of all who were taken in this recent tragedy. We will get through this together.”

Victims Confirmed

A release from the carrier named the pilots operating the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts go out to every staff member who has been affected and all in our local area – assisting you and making sure you receive the care and resources you need is our main concern,” the organization’s statement stated.

Investigation Findings

Federal officials revealed that the jet’s port side wing burst into flames and an engine fell off soon after liftoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the plane to fall and burst into a blaze.

The safety agency has said it is probing the jet’s maintenance history, which was in the state for repairs weeks prior to the incident.

Flight tracking information indicated the plane was on the ground in the Texas city from 3 September to last week.

“We are cognizant that this aircraft was there in San Antonio,” said an investigator on Thursday, without a specific period. “We will look at every piece of repairs that was done, even the San Antonio time, all the way to the time of the trip.”

Retrieval of Critical Components

The pilot’s recorder and flight data recorder were found, and the power plant was found on the tarmac.

The units – called data containers – were constructed to endure collision damage and severe heat from blazes, and they seemed to be undamaged when found among the wreckage. Investigators plan on examining recordings from the devices.

The plane’s final flight details showed an altitude of 475 feet and a rate of that speed before the accident.

Repair Record

Per FAA files dated that date, a fracture on a structural piece in the center wing fuel tank required fixes.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which stated it supplies airframe maintenance for UPS’s MD-11 and operates a service location in that city, declined to provide remarks, but stated it would cooperate fully when officials reached out it.

Services Restart

At the same time, UPS Worldport activities restarted last night with its overnight or nighttime operation, spokesperson Jim Mayer said. The three landing strips at the aviation hub were additionally back in operation.

The distribution hub in the city is the firm’s largest. The hub employs in excess of twenty thousand people in the area, processes numerous trips each day and sorts in excess of four hundred thousand parcels an hour.

Public Support

A memorial was organized on the night of 6 November by the local worker’s group, which acts for staff at the Louisville airport, the firm’s primary air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which supports UPS workers, began the gathering with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the approximate moment of the incident before.

“This incident was so sudden, so surprising,” the mayor told the group of two hundred. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to any one of those who we have lost.”
